Model is the first Vision Gran Turismo design from a Chinese company after special invitation from game’s founder Kazunori Yamauchi.
Xiaomi has unveiled its Vision Gran Turismo concept car at MWC Barcelona, marking the Chinese technology company’s latest move into high-performance automotive design.
The two-door supercar concept will be available for PlayStation 5 players to experience in the Gran Turismo 7 racing game.
The collaboration between Xiaomi and Gran Turismo emerged following a visit by Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of Gran Turismo, who personally experienced a Xiaomi car last June, following which the SU7 Ultra became the first mass-produced Chinese brand vehicle to join the Gran Turismo 7 game series.
The Vision Gran Turismo concept represents a significant design exercise for Xiaomi Auto and showcases the company’s approach to aerodynamic efficiency, according to Li Tianyuan, Xiaomi’s chief designer.
“Our philosophy is to achieve aerodynamic goals without relying on additional components,” Li says. “This philosophy requires us to adhere to the principle of ‘less is more,’ meaning that almost every design element must possess aerodynamic functionality.”
Design features focus on aerodynamic performance
The concept car incorporates several distinctive design elements, including a front splitter fascia, a T-shaped light signature, and scissor doors, while the overall concept evokes a semi-open wheeler design with a centre fin and an exaggerated diffuser that incorporates Xiaomi’s signature wraparound rear light signature.
Inside the cabin, the Vision Gran Turismo concept showcases a butterfly-shaped steering wheel, panoramic display screen, and what Xiaomi describes as the “Sofa Racer” concept with a cocoon-like cabin in one cohesive loop.
These interior elements reflect the concept’s focus on futuristic design language while maintaining driver-focused ergonomics, while Xiaomi claims it features Xiaomi Pulse, an intelligent feature that interacts with the driver through light and sound, and is connected to the Human x Car x Home smart ecosystem.
The concept car was spotted during MWC 2026 setup in Barcelona, Spain, ahead of its official debut, generating interest in the automotive and gaming communities.
Strategic move signals global expansion ambitions
Industry observers view the Vision Gran Turismo concept debut as a key component of Xiaomi Auto’s strategy to penetrate the global high-performance car market and advance its European expansion plans, with the gaming integration providing Xiaomi with a unique platform to showcase its automotive design capabilities to a global audience.
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has previously announced that Xiaomi Auto plans to launch overseas operations in 2027, and reports have already indicated that in late 2025, Xiaomi Group’s international division established an overseas sales preparation team, actively recruiting for positions including market research, project management, and electric vehicle after-sales engineers.
The company’s expansion strategy extends beyond automotive manufacturing. Last month, Lei Jun announced plans to increase Xiaomi’s retail presence in the UK market to 150 stores within the next four years, part of a broader international strategy to open 10,000 Xiaomi Home stores overseas within the next five years.
The Vision Gran Turismo concept represents Xiaomi’s continued evolution from a smartphone and consumer electronics manufacturer into a comprehensive technology company with automotive ambitions. The integration with Gran Turismo 7 provides immediate global exposure for Xiaomi’s automotive design language while the company prepares for its physical market entry in 2027.
