Chinese carmaker, Chery, has filed multiple patents in India. With the Jetour T2 spotted on multiple occasions, the Jaecoo J5 eSUV has been spied for the second time on Indian roads, clearly revealing an EV-specific detail.
As we previously reported, the Chery Jaecoo J5 is offered in both ICE and EV guises, of which the former has a fuel lid on the left rear quarter panel, and the EV has a charging port on the right front quarter panel. A cutout near the wheel arch cladding is visible through the wrap, and the same confirms that the wrapped test mule is an electric. The ICE is not likely to make its way in India, given that its probable joint venture with JSW will solely emphasise on New Energy Vehicles or NEVs (hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric).
The Jaecoo J5 EV comprises features like a boxy stance, projector LED lights, closed-off grille, 18-inch alloys that still continue to be masked in these test mules (actual alloys are dual tone), panoramic sunroof, 13.2-inch infotainment, 50W wireless charging, powered front row, 64-colour ambient lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an eight-speaker audio system.
On the mechanical side of things, the Chery Jaecoo J5 EV is underpinned by a 207bhp/288Nm front-biased motor paired with a 61kWh battery pack, and DC fast charging support of up to 130kW. 0-100kmph comes in at 7.3 seconds, and the eSUV gets an NEDC-claimed range of 461km. In markets like Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 EV is priced at RP 299,900,000 (Indonesian Rupiah), which translates to Rs. 16.32 lakh in India.
